About the Artist
“I paint to capture the light and colour that most people walk past without noticing.”
Bec Baly is a Brisbane-based artist working across watercolour, oil, oil stick, and mixed media. Her work explores the interplay of light, texture, and colour found in the Queensland landscape — from the golden haze over Moreton Bay to the raw, sunbaked earth of the hinterland.
Drawn to both the precision of watercolour and the bold physicality of oil stick, Bec moves fluidly between mediums, letting each piece dictate its own process. Her watercolours favour wet-on-wet techniques that create atmospheric, light-filled washes, while her oil stick works embrace gestural mark-making and layered pigment.
Originally self-taught, Bec has developed her practice through years of dedicated studio work, plein air painting, and workshops with established Australian artists. She paints from her home studio in Brisbane, surrounded by the subtropical landscape that continually inspires her work.
